Take Parents On Trips
I was fortunate to have enough money to buy tickets for my parents and take them to cities where I got assigned. For instance, when I was in Shanghai, they stayed with me for a week, and then we toured the city at night and on the weekend. The same thing happened in other places.
Because of that, my parents did not miss me too much. The bonus was that they managed to visit tourist destinations every month or so. They said that there was no better way to spend their retirement days.

Do Regular Video Calls
When I could not be physically together with my family, I was always on a video call with them once a day. We did not typically have a lot of topics to discuss. Sometimes, we merely talked while I was having lunch, and they were eating dinner. Other times, they would chat with me while on my way to the office.
Some people might think it was too much, but I cherished such moments. I loved seeing my parents, even if it was only through the small screen of my smartphone. Whenever we did that, it made me feel closer to home than ever.

Send Gifts To Loved Ones
During my overseas stay, I met employees who also had to leave their country for the job. Some did it for a change of scenery; others were the breadwinners in their family. And I was amazed by the latter when they invited me to their place one time, and I saw them filling big boxes with clothes, toys, shampoo bottles, canned goods, etc. When I asked why, they said they would send all the boxes to their loved ones, who would surely appreciate the gifts.
I loved the sweet gesture, so I took a leaf out of their notes and sent my parents gifts. No, I did not fill a box with stuff, but I got them a few things that they might like to eat or display at home. It ended up becoming a habit of mine every time I went to a new city, and my folks appreciated it.

I am still flying every three months or so wherever my leadership was needed. My career continues to flourish, and I may get another promotion before the year ends. More importantly, my parents feel loved despite my busy schedule. It’s all that matters to me.
